Cloud Gaming with Nvidia GeForce Now has become easier than ever. With the huge library of over 1800 game titles, you can play any popular ones on your Windows, MacOS or Linux system. You don’t need heavy system resources to run this app, as all games are stored in the cloud. Hence, you need to install Nvidia GeForce Now in Linux and start playing games over the internet.
If you have a membership of this service and want to utilize all the features, you must install it on your system. I use a different cloud gaming system, but here are the steps that will guide you in installing Nvidia GeForce Now on your Ubuntu or other Linux distro easily.
What is Nvidia GeForce Now Client?
The NVIDIA GeForce Now Client is the client-side app that allows players to access their online games. With access to a cloud server containing more than a few thousand games, the players can choose anything and start playing it remotely over a server.
There is no official client available for Linux, but the third-party developers have made an Electron wrapper for this app. With this, it can run seamlessly on Ubuntu or other Linux distributions with ease.
How to Install GeForce Now on Linux?
GeForce Now Service is wrapped in the Electron client with Chrome V8 technology, which turns the normal website into an application and provides a seamless experience. I don’t like such apps much, but this one is well-optimized. Installing this client is easy as there are numerous ways available. I am listing the Snap, APT, and Flatpak methods for easier installation.
Method #1 – Use Flatpak to Install GeForce Now Client
Flatpak is one of the simplest ways to install any app on your system. It needs to have Flatpak core installed to let it fetch, download and install apps. I am assuming you have that installed.
sudo flatpak install flathub io.github.hmlendea.geforcenow-electron
You have to type the Sudo password to start the installation. Flatpak packages are heavier than the normal packages, then it may take a few seconds to complete the installation.
Method #2 – Use Snap Package to install GeForce Now
Snap is another easiest way to install any app on your system. Almost all of the Ubuntu-based distributions have Snap preinstalled. If you are using it as a preferred way of installing apps, then you should follow this method. I also use Snap to install a wide range of apps.
Open the Terminal window with the “Ctrl + Alt + T” key combination. Type or paste the following command in the Terminal. Then, you have to enter the Sudo password to start the installation.
sudo snap install geforcenow
If you have Snapd core installed, then this will run with ease. Otherwise, you have to install that to start the isntallation. This is a simplest method for Ubuntu and similar distro users.
How to Use GeForce Now Client on Linux?
- Regardless of the installation method, you should know how to use it. You can open it directly from the Terminal by typing “geforce” now. Otherwise, you can open it through the Applications Menu.
- After opening, you will see the Terms and Conditions page. Read through the same and accept it. It is important to read it thoroughly.
- Now, you will be asked to log in or sign up with your GeForce Now account. Use it to sign in or create a new account.
- Once logged in, you will be asked to choose a subscription plan. If you already have a subscription, then this option will not appear.
- Now, you can see every game available in your subscription package and start playing it. You can access settings to adjust the graphics quality and internet settings and even connect external gamepad controllers for a convenient gaming experience.

Some people get tired after playing a ton of games. It’s quite common, and in this section, you will learn how to uninstall this app from your system.
